Threat to physical harm by parents Threat to physical harm by parents

I'm in love with a guy who's undergoing a divorce. All legal proceedings have started and we started our relationship after the divorce was finalised. I went to my hometown and told my parents about him. My dad become very aggressive and violent and threatened to harm me or me if I continue the relationship. I want to know what I can do in this case. I'm ready to go to the police if need be. I have evidence of my dad saying that he'll harm the guy.

A.Where are you now? Are you in your hometown or else where? If you're in your hometown and you have been restricted on your movement, then lodge a complaint with the local police station for domestic violence. If police do not take your complaint then write to the SP of your region seeking protection. If you're elsewhere, you don't need to fear, you both can marry according to the marriage law.

A.If you are above 18 you can leave home and do whatever you want without consent of your father. What your father gave was a conditional threat. You can seek police protection.

A.If you have crossed 18 years of age then you are totally free to live according to your choice.Your parents or anybody else cannot have any legal right to restrict your freedom in any manner whatsoever. So far the legal action against your parents are concerned, you may file a writ petition before the Hon'ble High court, after given information to the police that you are being harassed and threatened by your parents . In such case the Hon'ble High court may pass appropriate order and you will be afforded an opportunity to live your life according to your choice.

A.If your father is a really violent kind of person and has the means to harm him or you, then you can make a complaint. However, it all really depends upon the kind of society you live in. Honour killings are not unknown in India. But that happens only in certain areas and societies. Please do assess the situation properly before taking any step. Remedies under DV Act are not available to him. They are available to you.

He has raised his hand many times. This time it's different because I don't want anything to happen to the guy. Also I would want to know if legally my father can do anything to keep us separate?
I'm 25 and the guy is 31.
