My father property has no proof that taxes have been paid till date. My grandmother used to pay taxes and since she has passed away we have no documents available. Is it possible to open a new tax file and we can pay taxes from the beginning?

A.First get the property transferred to your name. Thereafter approach the local Municipality/Corporation for payment of taxes and apply for mutation certificate. A.If your grandmother used to pay property tax then there will be definitely some record in your Municipality / Panchayath. If you inquire with the, they will give you the information.

We did enquire with the municipality but it appears our physical tax papers have been removed from the file and they have no record of it. Is it possible to open a new file?
