My stepdaughter is a US citizen by birth, I want to adopt her in India as I am married to her biological mother. What is the process?

If you want to adopt a stepchild, you must have the consent (or agreement) of both your spouse and the child's other parent (the noncustodial parent) unless that parent has abandoned the child. By giving his or her consent, the non-custodial parent gives up all rights and responsibilities, including child support.

A.In case of “step-parent adoption", the couple including one of the biological parents will have to register with Central Adoption Resource Authority,Ministry of Women & Child Development, Government of India . They also need to get consent of the other biological parent for adoption and have to file an application in the Family Court or District Court or City Civil Court as the case may be to obtain an adoption order.
