Before signing the agreement, I was informed that apart from rent, I will have to pay electricity bill as per meter of my rented room. One month later, owner gave me electricity bill, added electricity bill of water pump from corporation and borewell both as per his calculations, and water bill from both borewell and corporation. Now they say, it was understood so you have to pay.

Review the Rental Agreement: Carefully examine the terms and conditions mentioned in the rental agreement you signed. Look for any clauses related to the payment of additional bills such as electricity, water, or maintenance charges.

Consult with a Legal Advisor: Seek advice from a legal advisor who specializes in tenancy and contract law. They can help you understand your rights and obligations as a tenant and provide guidance on how to address the issue effectively.

Request a Discussion with the Owner: Request a meeting with the owner to discuss the misunderstanding and the terms that were initially agreed upon. Present any evidence or documentation that supports your understanding of the original agreement.

Seek Mediation or Arbitration: If discussions with the owner do not yield a resolution, consider seeking mediation or arbitration to resolve the dispute. A neutral third party can help facilitate a fair and mutually acceptable solution for both parties.

Check Applicable Laws: Familiarize yourself with the relevant tenancy laws in your area that govern the rights and responsibilities of both landlords and tenants. Understanding your legal rights can help you assess whether the owner's demands are in line with the law.
