A.Dear Client,

The security deposit in a lease agreement is generally refundable to the tenant upon surrendering vacant possession of the premises after the lock-in period, provided terms are met. Disputes between tenants and landlords are addressed under state-specific Rent Control Acts, overseen by Rent Controllers or Additional Rent Controllers. If a landlord refuses to refund the security deposit, the tenant can submit an application to the Rent Controller detailing the grievance, aiming to resolve the issue amicably.

A.Dear Client,
Unless it is specifically stipulated in the Lease Agreement and complied with, the security deposit is refundable by the Lessor to the Lessee on surrender of vacant possession of let-out premises after the lock-in period serving two months advance notice to the Lessor. A dispute between a tenant and landlord is resolved under the state-specific Rent Control Act under which a Rent Controller or Addl Rent Controller is appointed to deal with the dispute arising out of a rent agreement between the parties. On refusal of refund of security deposit by the Lessor/Landlord, can file an application explaining your grievance before the concerned Rent Controller to resolve the issue amicably. Reach out to an Advocate for guidance and steps.
