A.Dear Client,

Changing one's spouse's surname after marriage is not legally obligatory in India. Women are not required to change their names or surnames on their passports post-marriage either. While adopting the same surname as one's spouse is often seen as symbolically sealing the marriage, it can also streamline paperwork for property-related matters and joint accounts. Additionally, it may simplify decisions regarding the surname of future children.

Ultimately, whether or not to change one's spouse's last name is a personal choice. It should be made based on individual comfort and identity, rather than societal expectations.

A.Dear Client,
Changing your spouse's surname post-marriage is not legally mandatory in India. Even, women don't need to change their names/surname on their passports after marriage. It is believed that taking on the same surname as the man seals the marriage. However, It makes future paperwork for property-related matters easier. Further, If you are looking at joint accounts, then it is easier if you have the same surname. The debate on what surname your future kids will have gets omitted. So if you are contemplating whether you should or shouldn’t change your wife's last name, do what you feel is right. It's a personal choice and should be made considering your comfort and identity.

A.Dear Sir,
It does not create any problem as in most cases in India even after marriage the surnames will not be changed and it is understood.
