Stray cats issue Stray cats issue

Some residents are feeding stray cats and they are roaming around freely and being a nuisance - entering people's homes, snarling away and subsequent increase of cat population.

My RWA received this letter from the AWB recently -

"Adding on to this, the complainant claimed that some of the residents from their apartment are always against feeding the cats and they also insist the association for relocation of cats. As per Indian law, it's not illegal to have pets and feed them. These voiceless animals can only rely upon humans to ensure their welfare and rights are protected. A shelter is not an ideal place for community animals. They are free roaming by nature and we need to understand this as well.

“Article 51-A (g), says that “It shall be the duty of every citizen of India to protect and improve the natural environment including forests, lakes, rivers and wildlife and to have compassion for living creatures.” The Directive principles under the Indian constitution directed towards ideals of building welfare state”

We request you to kindly extend compassion towards animals in your neighborhood and not to consider relocation as it's a violation of ABC Rules 2001. Please do reach out to us if you require any assistance we will be happy to send a committee who will look into a resolution of the issue.
"
What can be done regarding this ? We always want to ensure that the cats are removed as they are a general nuisance. I know that people can maintain pets in their residences and feed them but these are stray cats. Certain residents want to feed them and take no responsibility for their actions.

A.Dear Client

The Animal Welfare Board (AWB) has stated that feeding and caring for community animals, including stray cats, is not illegal, and relocation may violate ABC Rules 2001. To address the nuisance caused by the cats, it may be helpful to discuss the issue with the committee sent by the AWB and establish a designated area for feeding the cats. Ultimately, any actions taken should be done with compassion and consideration for the welfare of both the community and the animals.
